Julius Caesar Song

"Daggers Speak Louder Than Words" - Alesana.
This song is a good representation of Julius Caesar, because it's about betrayal and losing a friend. In the play, Brutus and many other friends of Caesar plot to kill him, because of his "ambitious actions." This song could be from Caesar's point of view, based off of the lyrics printed below. Also, there are references to a dagger being "buried deep" into someone. Caesar was killed with roughly six daggers stabbed into him. Lyrics:

Eyes open to splattered blood
Cold tile mocks me as I arise to find the knife is still in my back
Shifting thoughts now slow with venom
Take me as I stagger
Is this all we were worth?
I've lost you for good without regret
Your once gentle words are bleeding from my eyes
Screams of terror now fill my every breath
I know you'll rue the day you ever met me
I'll lay you down to sleep
When sorrow will bury the blade hilt deep

You know I would have died for you
Now I'm forced to choose between
A life of revenge or regret
As I thirst for vengeance
My heart struggles to come to grips
Why would you leave me to die, turn, and walk away?

Alone,
You stood so still as you watched me break
Did it now kill you too?
What has led you to the dagger my friend?

You know I would have died for you
Now I'm forced to choose between
A life of revenge or regret
As I thirst for vengeance
My heart struggles to come to grips
Why would you leave me to die, turn, and walk away?
Turn, and walk away
Turn, and walk away

My revenge is made so clear
Midst cold tears left with the betrayed
I'll see that you never forget this
I will hunt you down like a dog
Lies could never disguise
What I saw behind me in you

Remembering times
We have shared
My friend for life is gone
Remembering times
(We'll let the embers serve as the only memory of last days...)
We have shared
My friend for life is gone
(...so long ago)

Why would you leave me to die, turn, and walk away?
Why would you leave me to die after you had buried the dagger hilt deep?

You're dead to me
I would have died for you
Now I'm forced to choose between
A life of revenge or regret
As I thirst for vengeance
My heart struggles to come to grips
Why would you leave me to die?
You're dead to me

Brutus Journal, Act VI, Scene III

Journal---
How can Cassius just turn on me like that?! How can he just suddenly betray me?! Why that little coward! He understood when we first planned to kill Caesar, that we were doing it for justice and the good of Rome! Why would he just turn on me and stab me in the back? I do suppose it’s no different from my turning on Caesar and slaying him. But that’s beside the point! I had reason! Cassius does not!

Cassius journal, Act VI, Scene III

Journal.
I partook in a horrible event. I helped kill Caesar. And while my original intentions were good, I know feel like it was a mistake. Now I feel like I’ve betrayed Caesar. Brutus is no longer my friend, no longer my brother. I must do something about this. I don’t want to have this feeling of bottled up guilt sitting on me forever. I must do something now.

Antony journal, Act 3, Scene 1

Dear Diary,
They killed my Caesar! Those traitors! How could they kill my king? I once believed that Brutus had cared for Caesar, but now I fear that he never had. They will pay. I will find a way to betray those who betrayed my Caesar. One way or another, their actions will fall back on them. I couldn’t bear to see my Caesar, lying there in his own pool of blood. His many stab wounds horrified me. I will never lose that image, and I will never lose my hate for Brutus. They will all pay.

Brutus Journal, Act 3, scene 1

Journal,
Today, we killed Caesar. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. I loved Caesar, yes, but it needed to be done. He was far too ambitious for Rome, and Rome does not need a ruler like Caesar. If this deed was not done, Rome would be a Hell of a place to call home. I fear Mark Antony will betray us, and tell Rome that we killed him out of spite, and not good intentions. I will do my best to keep these Romans aware of my good intentions, and show them what a true leader can be.

Picture Representation

This picture is a good representation of Julius Caesar, because the story has a major theme of betrayal. The two faces of this picture shows the two-faced Brutus, being a close friend to Caesar, but then going against him in the end. The knives in the back of the figure show the numerous betrayals to Caesar, from Casca, and everyone else. The darkness of the picture represents the dark setting of this play, and the betrayal that followed it.

Caesar Journal

Deal Journal,
Ah, I love my life! Waking in the early morning to find my beautiful wife Calphurnia begging me not to leave for the senate! She’s adorable. <3 I told her that I wouldn’t leave for the senate today, but stay home with her, so she knows that I will not die. Oh, what is this? My friends have come to great me for a meeting! Brutus, Cassius, all of them! How they love me. They all wanted me to read their petitions, yada yada, and---wait… what was that? I am dead?! What? Is that my corpse laying in the dirt, beneath my “friends”? Why you little---!
